Last Saturday, music enthusiasts flocked to Carnival City, for an unforgettable event featuring a stellar lineup of artists. “Spoegwolf en die Legends” showcased a musical extravaganza that included performances by renowned artists such as Valiant Swart, Anton Goosen, Tasche, Ryno Velvet, Dozi, Gian Groen, Vrede, Zaan Sonnekus, Tino, Nicola Dreyer, and of course the title act themselves, Spoegwolf. The musical talents on display left the audience in awe, as each artist brought their A-game to the stage.

The atmosphere was electric as the artists delivered soul-stirring performances, creating memories that would undoubtedly linger in the minds of attendees. The cramped conditions, while tolerable for shorter performances, became a significant drawback during the 3.5+ hour event. Some attendees resorted to taking breaks outside to alleviate the discomfort, missing valuable moments of the show in the process.
Carnival City’s External Decay: A Venue in Despair
Externally, Carnival City appeared to be in a state of disrepair, with scaffolding against the walls and noticeable cracks and faded paint. What was once a vibrant venue now seemed neglected, leaving patrons questioning the management’s commitment to maintaining its former glory. This adding to the distrust of the venue that was highlighted in February of 2022 when a suspected electrical fire broke out and damaged a small part of the building.
A notable change was the entry fee, which had shifted from a nominal R10 per car to R10 per person. While attendees expressed a willingness to pay, concerns arose about the allocation of these funds. With visible signs of neglect, many wondered why the venue was not investing in essential maintenance and improvements.
Exit Woes: Navigating the Parking Predicament
Despite the remarkable performances, the overall experience was marred by the venue’s shortcomings. A notable issue was the exit process from the parking area, which took a staggering 20 minutes. Attendees called for a more efficient solution, especially during major events when the venue anticipates a large influx of visitors.
