Technical Issues Cause Flight Check-in Delays for FlySafair and LIFT
Passengers flying with FlySafair and LIFT Airlines are experiencing flight check-in delays due to ongoing technical issues affecting airport systems. The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed that the problem is impacting check-in processes, leading to long queues and extended processing times.
Technical Issues Disrupting Check-in Systems
ACSA has attributed the flight check-in delays to a global systems issue that has affected the airlines’ ability to process passengers efficiently.
“Technicians from the airlines and their service providers are actively working to resolve the matter. However, there is currently no estimated time for full resolution,” ACSA stated.
As a result, both FlySafair and LIFT passengers are urged to anticipate longer waiting times at check-in counters.

Travel Advisory: Arrive Early to Avoid Disruptions
To mitigate the inconvenience caused by these flight check-in delays, ACSA has issued travel recommendations:
- Regional flights: Arrive at least three hours before departure.
- Domestic flights: Arrive at least two hours before departure.
For real-time updates, passengers are encouraged to download the ACSA mobile app and subscribe to flight notifications. Alternatively, they can contact FlySafair and LIFT Airlines directly for more information.
LIFT Airlines: ‘Minimal Impact Expected’
LIFT Airlines addressed the situation, explaining that while there were some delays over the weekend, their team managed to handle the issue effectively.
“This impacted the printing of baggage tags and boarding passes. However, our teams responded with professionalism, minimizing the impact on customers. Our Cape Town check-in counters are now fully operational, and we expect all remaining systems to be restored soon,” LIFT stated.
Recent Power Failure at OR Tambo
In a related event, OR Tambo International Airport experienced a temporary power failure in January due to a municipal-level trip. ACSA clarified that the issue was beyond their control and that the airport’s backup generators ensured minimal disruption.
“We sincerely thank all passengers for their patience and understanding as we work to resolve these flight check-in delays,” ACSA concluded.
For further updates, travelers should check with their airlines and stay informed through official communication channels.
